 Elon Musk said on Tuesday his artificial intelligence startup xAI has bought a third building to expand its infrastructure, aiming to boost training capacity to nearly 2 gigawatts of compute power.

The latest expansion underscores xAI's ambitious push to compete more effectively with industry leaders OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude by training increasingly advanced models. The company's supercomputer cluster in Memphis, Tennessee, known as Colossus, is touted as the largest in the world.

"xAI has bought a third building called MACROHARDRR," Musk wrote on X, without disclosing its location. The term is potentially a play on Microsoft's name.

The new building is just the beginning of the expected expenses, though. After all, xAI still must acquire the GPUs, power sources, and more for the site to be productive. And even though Musk is one of the richest people on earth, he’s still working to raise tens of billions of dollars to help fund it, as xAI is burning through over a billion dollars a month, as it races to build the most advanced AI on the planet.

Even though Musk is still working on the funding for the project, Nvidia has already reportedly signed a deal to deliver the needed GPUs for the site, helping him reach his goal of acquiring 50 million H100-equivalent GPUs in the next five years. Musk's ultimate goal, though, is to have more AI compute than everyone else combined, challenging Microsoft and other AI titans. Aside from acquiring the chips for the AI data center, the billionaire also needs to find a way to power it. It’s already been confirmed that Musk bought an overseas power plant and is shipping it to the U.S. to power Colossus 2. xAI has already set its sights on installing a gas turbine facility, which is set to supply 460MW from natural gas, helping the firm achieve its lofty compute capacity goals

xAI is planning to expand its supercomputer Colossus to house at least 1 million graphics processing units.

According to a news report, the startup is planning to start turning the newly purchased warehouse into a data center in 2026, adding that both the new data center and Colossus 2 are close to a natural gas power plant that xAI is building in the area, as well as other power sources.

Huawei and PEA Launch Next-Generation AI-Powered Intelligent Substations in Thailand

Huawei, in collaboration with Thailand’s Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), has introduced a next-generation intelligent substation solution powered by artificial intelligence, marking a significant step forward in the digital modernization of Thailand’s power infrastructure. The announcement was made at a themed event, “AI Empowers New-Gen Intelligent Substations,” held in Bangkok.

William Zhang, President of Enterprise Business at Huawei Thailand, highlighted the growing challenges facing modern power systems, including renewable energy integration and interactive electricity consumption. He emphasized that digitalization and intelligence are essential to overcoming these challenges. “As critical components of the power grid, substations must evolve to improve overall system reliability. Our joint solution with PEA combines optical-visual linkage with AI-driven predictive maintenance, enabling intelligent inspections and highly efficient operations and maintenance. This ensures substations operate safely, reliably, and efficiently,” Zhang said.

Pantong Thinsatit, Assistant Governor for Grid Network Operations at PEA, stressed the importance of digital transformation in driving high-quality development within the power sector. “PEA is accelerating the adoption of intelligent substations through innovation to redefine energy services. We have already deployed unattended intelligent systems across 467 substations, leveraging advanced technologies to enhance operational safety,” he noted. Looking ahead, PEA plans to advance full automation, break down data silos, and integrate smart poles, license plate recognition, battery monitoring, and emergency response systems to enable faster and more accurate operations. These intelligent substations are expected to become central to the energy ecosystem and serve as a scalable model for industry-wide digital transformation.

Conventional substations often face three key challenges: inadequate security monitoring, inefficient and error-prone manual inspections, and legacy cabling infrastructure that results in high latency and limited stability, restricting intelligent service deployment. Huawei’s solution addresses these issues through three core capabilities:

All-Weather Digital Security (Perimeter Protection):
By combining fiber-optic sensing technologies with AI algorithms, the system can automatically detect intrusions, coordinate with video surveillance, and enable remote verification. This transforms security from a reactive approach to proactive, 24/7 monitoring.

AI-Driven Intelligent Inspection:
Advanced AI inspection algorithms, computer vision models, and cloud-edge collaboration enable automated meter reading, transformer oil leakage detection, and real-time remote management. Faults can be identified and addressed within minutes, significantly improving maintenance efficiency.

Full Connectivity Through a Comprehensive Sensing Network:
Intra-station passive optical networks (PONs) reduce deployment time and costs while providing high-speed, stable connectivity. This network acts as the “nervous system” of the power grid, supporting intelligent operations and maintenance.

Centre Puts Social Media Platforms on Notice Over Obscene Content

The Union government has issued a strong warning to social media companies and digital intermediaries, cautioning that continued inaction against obscene and unlawful content could invite serious legal consequences.

In an advisory dated December 29, 2025, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) directed online platforms to urgently reassess their content governance practices. The ministry made it clear that legal protection available to intermediaries under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act is conditional and applies only when platforms demonstrate adequate “due diligence” in moderating third-party content.

Compliance Failures Flagged

According to MeitY, a recent assessment revealed that several platforms are failing to respond effectively to content that is obscene, vulgar, or otherwise illegal. The ministry noted that such lapses undermine user safety and violate existing legal obligations.

Obligations Under IT Rules, 2021

The advisory reiterates that the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 require platforms to actively prevent users from creating or circulating content that is:

• Pornographic or sexually explicit

• Pedophilic or exploitative of children

• Harmful to minors in any form

Platforms are expected to take reasonable and proactive measures to ensure such material does not remain accessible.

Mandatory Action Timelines

MeitY has also reminded intermediaries of strict content takedown deadlines:

• Sexual or impersonation-related content must be removed within 24 hours of receiving a complaint.

• Content flagged through court orders or government directions must be disabled within the timelines prescribed under the IT Rules.

For major social media platforms, the government stressed the need to move beyond reactive moderation and deploy automated and technology-driven tools to detect and curb unlawful content at scale.

Legal Risks for Non-Compliance

The advisory leaves little room for ambiguity. Platforms that fail to comply may face:

• Withdrawal of safe-harbour protection, exposing them to direct liability for user-generated content.

• Criminal proceedings under the IT Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and other applicable laws, potentially affecting companies, their executives, and even users.

Through this advisory, the Centre has signaled a tougher enforcement stance, emphasizing that content moderation is no longer optional or complaint-driven but a core legal responsibility for digital platforms operating in India.
