Oracle’s billion-dollar AI bet faces its first real test in Michigan

For Oracle, the future of cloud computing is no longer abstract — it is being poured in concrete, steel, and megawatts.

On the outskirts of Saline Township, Michigan, the company is planning a hyperscale data center campus so large it would draw more than one gigawatt of power, placing it among the most ambitious AI infrastructure projects in North America. The facility is a keystone of Stargate, Oracle’s joint AI push with OpenAI, and a statement of intent in a cloud market increasingly defined by generative AI.

Yet before construction has even begun, the project has found itself at the centre of investor unease.

A sudden jolt to the market

Oracle recently moved to reassure shareholders after reports surfaced that financing talks for the Michigan site had hit turbulence. The trigger was the exit of Blue Owl Capital, until now Oracle’s most significant data-center investment partner — a development that spooked markets and contributed to a sharp pullback in the company’s share price.

Oracle insists the reaction was overblown. Equity discussions, it says, are ongoing and the project remains on schedule for a first-quarter 2026 groundbreaking.

Behind the scenes, the split appears less dramatic than headlines suggested. Sources familiar with the talks say Blue Owl sought terms similar to those secured in earlier Oracle-backed projects, but the Michigan deal carried different lease structures and debt dynamics. This time, Oracle’s development partner Related Digital opted for another investor from what it described as a competitive field.

The cost of chasing AI scale

The episode, however, exposes a deeper tension surrounding Oracle’s AI ambitions. The company has embraced an aggressive infrastructure-led growth strategy at a moment when capital markets are less forgiving. Debt levels have risen, and Oracle’s AI narrative is increasingly tethered to OpenAI, a partner with enormous technological influence — and persistent financial losses.

For investors, the question is no longer whether AI demand exists, but who carries the risk of building for it at unprecedented scale.

Oracle’s shares, which surged earlier on the back of large AI-driven cloud order announcements, have since surrendered much of those gains. While reports suggest financial heavyweights such as Blackstone have held preliminary discussions around the Michigan project, no equity agreement has yet been finalised.

A defining moment

Oracle is betting that long-term demand will ultimately vindicate its approach. Hyperscale capacity remains scarce, AI workloads continue to expand, and control over infrastructure may prove decisive in the next phase of the cloud wars.

If the Michigan campus rises as planned, it will stand not just as a data center, but as a monument to Oracle’s belief that the AI era belongs to those willing to build first — and weather the doubts along the way.

BPL’s new OT charting software

BPL Medical Technologies, India’s leading medical equipment brand with a 50-year legacy under the BPL Group, has launched its latest innovations in critical-care technology at ISACON 2025. The newly introduced portfolio includes the ExcelSign E12 and E17 modular patient monitors and the Relife 1000 biphasic defibrillator. The focus was on BPL’s new OT charting software, designed to support hospitals in strengthening preparedness across ICUs, operating rooms, and emergency departments. A part of their digital solutions portfolio, the OT charting software was well received by eminent representatives from the industry.

The event saw 2,500 participants, and the new portfolio of BPL equipment was unveiled in the presence of eminent clinicians and distinguished guests: Dr. Bala Venkat, executive director – head of SG Wealth & Retail Banking Data Analytics, Standard Chartered; Dr. Pradeep Sharma, doctor, Shrikrishan Dev Clinic, Una; Dr. Ganga Chakra Rao Abbireddy, pharmacy technician, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories; Dr. Kameshwar Rao Modekurti, associate professor, IBS Hyderabad (IFHE); Dr. Kuchelababu Vankineni, director, SevenHils Hospital; and Dr. Prabhakar Tallamraju, director, UP Rural Institute of Medical Sciences, Saifai, Etawah. They appreciated the enhanced capabilities and clinical focus integrated into the new solutions.

The BPL presentation drew strong interest from attendees, with over 200 visitors engaging with the company’s showcase across the event. Many clinicians spent time exploring the newly launched ExcelSign E12/E17 patient monitoring systems, noting their clarity of display, ease of navigation, and the practical usefulness of their modular configuration across ICUs, OTs and emergency settings. The Relife 1000 defibrillator also attracted steady attention, particularly among emergency-care teams who were keen on its guidance features and portability for rapid-response situations. One of the most discussed additions, however, was the newly introduced OT charting software, which several visitors described as a timely digital solution that could simplify intra-operative documentation and strengthen data continuity within operating rooms.

Sharing his perspective on the industry impact, Mr Guruswamy Krishnamurthy, CEO of BPL Medical Technologies, remarked, “Industry-academia partnerships drive innovation globally, and this collaboration marks a pivotal shift for BPL from trading to product development and manufacturing. Leveraging MAHE’s world-class testing facilities and clinical expertise will accelerate our journey to deliver practical, affordable medical devices for India and similar markets across the world.”

Dr Giridhar P Kini, Registrarof MAHE, and Mr Guruswamy Krishnamurthy, CEO of BPL Medical Technologies, officially exchanged the MoU. Key dignitaries, including Dr Ranjan R Pai, President of MAHE and Chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group, Dr H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, VSM (Retd.), Vice Chancellor, and senior leadership from both institutions, attended the signing ceremony.

With 14 regional offices and a network of over 500 professionals, BPL Medical Technologies has one of the widest reaches in the Indian Medtech space. The company is now focusing on investing more in research and development, while also expanding its presence in both hospitals and homecare.

As part of this plan, BPL MedTech is working on adding AI features directly into its X-ray machines. This will allow the machines to provide smart diagnosis even in remote areas without internet access, helping more people get the care they need, wherever they are. With these efforts, BPL MedTech aims to make advanced healthcare more accessible, affordable, and truly inclusive.

Centric Software moves beyond AI as a buzzword, emphasizing purposeful, measurable applications that unite people, data and technology to deliver real business outcomes.

To have a transformative effect on a company, AI needs three things: First, to work in conjunction with human Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) that bring expertise and best-practices knowledge. Second, AI must then convert that knowledge into AI algorithms and third, it requires high-quality training data.

Many brands and retailers struggle with the data piece. Faced with huge volumes of information scattered across disconnected systems, businesses often don’t know where to begin or how to transform that data into insight. Centric Software’s integrated architecture bridges this gap, bringing structure, governance and context to every data point so AI can surface relevant, timely results and guide confident decision making.

Underneath it all, a strong foundation is required. Centric PLM provides the foundation for AI, structuring product, supplier and operational data within a trusted domain model that eliminates silos and ensures data integrity across regions and teams. This unified environment allows Centric’s AI to operate with true intent, analyzing, learning and optimizing in context, so insights translate directly into measurable business value.

Embedded across Centric Software solutions, AI:
