OpenAI and Anthropic have announced temporary increases to usage limits for their AI-powered coding tools, offering developers extra capacity during the holiday season. As part of a year-end initiative, both companies are providing select users with higher usage caps, aimed at developers and professionals who often reach existing limits during intensive work periods.
OpenAI has reset and doubled the standard rate limits for Codex, its AI-based coding agent. These enhanced limits will remain in effect until 1 January 2026. The announcement was shared on X by Thibault Sottiaux, a Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI, who described the move as a holiday gesture to thank users for their ongoing engagement and feedback throughout the year.
Codex is designed to support the full software development
lifecycle, allowing users to generate and modify code using text prompts or
images. It is available across multiple platforms, including the command line,
ChatGPT, and popular development environments such as Visual Studio Code and
Cursor.
Anthropic has introduced a similar offer for its Claude AI
platform. From 25 December to 31 December, Pro and Max subscribers will receive
double their standard usage limits across mobile, desktop, and web versions of
the service.
Anthropic clarified that the promotion applies only to individual subscribers, with Team and Enterprise plans excluded. Both existing users and new subscribers who sign up during the promotional period are eligible for the increased limits.
