JavaScript toolchain, as it accelerates efforts to support soaring demand for its AI coding assistant, Claude Code.

Anthropic has acquired JavaScript toolchain Bun to enhance the speed, stability and scalability of Claude Code, its fast-growing AI coding assistant already used by global enterprises. The move aims to strengthen Anthropic’s developer infrastructure amid rising AI-driven software development.

Anthropic has announced the acquisition of Bun, the high-performance JavaScript toolchain, as it accelerates efforts to support soaring demand for its AI coding assistant, Claude Code. The deal comes as the company reports a sharp rise in enterprise adoption, making Claude Code one of the fastest-growing developer tools globally.

Claude Code, which became widely available in May 2025, is now used by major companies including Netflix, Spotify, KPMG, L’OrĂ©al and Salesforce. Anthropic says the tool crossed USD 1 billion in run-rate revenue in November, underscoring the rapid shift toward AI-augmented software development.

Bun’s integration is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of Anthropic’s AI-driven coding workflows. Its lightweight architecture, ultra-fast execution, and ability to produce single-file executables align perfectly with the needs of high-intensity AI workloads. Predictable performance and broad JavaScript compatibility make Bun particularly suited to autonomous agents that write, test, and deploy code.

With Anthropic’s investment, Bun becomes a cornerstone for automated software pipelines and agent-based development. The company aims to evolve Bun to handle higher loads, more complex orchestration requirements, and increasingly sophisticated AI coding tasks.

The acquisition also reflects a shared vision between Bun’s founder and Anthropic: pushing the boundaries of agentic systems, reducing repetitive developer work, and enabling more advanced autonomous software creation.

Last month, Microsoft and Nvidia announced plans to invest up to $15 billion in Anthropic, in the latest AI-driven tie-up that also includes a $30 billion commitment by the Claude maker to use Microsoft's cloud services.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI staff, Anthropic was recently valued at $183 billion and has become a major rival to OpenAI, driven by the strong adoption of its services by enterprise customers.

Bun’s Current Adoption Metrics:

• Monthly Downloads: More than 7 million downloads per month

• GitHub Stars: Over 82,000 stars on GitHub

• Enterprise Users: Major technology companies, including Midjourney and Lovable

• Performance: Significantly faster startup times and execution compared to the leading competition

Bun has improved the JavaScript and TypeScript developer experience by optimizing for reliability, speed, and delight, helping developers build and test applications at unprecedented velocity.
