Trump Mobile’s much-hyped gold-colored smartphone, the T1,
won’t be arriving as promised. The handset—priced at $499 and tied to a new
U.S. mobile service launched by Donald Trump’s family business—has seen its
delivery timeline slip, with customers now facing uncertainty.
The company’s customer service team cited the recent U.S.
government shutdown as a key reason for disrupted shipments, raising doubts
about whether the phone will ship this month. Trump Mobile has yet to
officially comment, and questions remain about who is actually manufacturing
the device—an unusual opacity in a market where most phones are made overseas.
Alongside the T1, Trump Mobile has introduced a $47.45-per-month wireless plan, with customers asked to pay a $100 pre-booking fee for the phone.
The delay underscores how tough it is to break into America’s crowded smartphone market, long dominated by Apple and Samsung—and where even a gold finish can’t guarantee a smooth launch.
