Lenovo has never been afraid to experiment with bold laptop designs, and its latest concept at CES 2026 proves that once again. After refining its vertical rollable ThinkPad concept, the company has now turned its attention to gamers with something even more eye-catching: the Legion Pro Rollable Concept, a laptop whose screen expands sideways.
A Rollable Screen Made for Gaming
Unlike Lenovo’s earlier rollable laptops that extend
vertically, this concept expands horizontally. The idea is simple but
clever—gamers can enjoy a widescreen experience on the go, without carrying a
bulky external monitor.
The laptop uses Lenovo’s PureSight OLED display, which is
known for rich colours, deep blacks, and strong contrast. While the current
concept is based on the powerful Legion
Pro 7i, featuring Intel and Nvidia hardware, Lenovo says a future
commercial version would likely be designed more specifically around the
rollable screen.
One Laptop, Three
Screen Sizes
The Legion Pro Rollable Concept starts with a 16-inch
display, which is already standard for gaming laptops. With the rollable
mechanism activated, the screen can expand to 21.5 inches or even 24 inches,
depending on how much desk space you have.
Lenovo claims the display rolls smoothly without rubbing
against other components, reducing wear and tear during expansion and
contraction. This detail is crucial, as durability is often the biggest concern
with moving parts.
Smarter Controls on the Way
At the moment, the screen is controlled using keyboard
shortcuts, but Lenovo says future versions could support touch or gesture
controls. That would make the experience more intuitive and much more
futuristic.
The company appears to be targeting esports players who
travel frequently and need a larger display for competitive play. That said,
there’s no reason casual gamers—or even non-gamers—couldn’t benefit from the
technology.
More Than Just a
Gimmick
Some might dismiss rollable laptops as flashy concepts with little real-world use. But Lenovo’s steady progress suggests otherwise. These designs offer a glimpse into how laptops could become more flexible, immersive, and adaptable in the future.
Lenovo’s brand has grown far beyond its traditional
work-focused image, and concepts like this help it stand out in a crowded
market. Even if this exact model never reaches store shelves, the technology
behind it could easily find its way into mainstream laptops.
Final Thoughts
The Legion Pro Rollable Concept may still be experimental, but it’s an exciting look at what’s possible. By combining portability with a large, expandable display, Lenovo is rethinking what a gaming laptop can be—and making the future of laptops a lot more interesting.
