HP Introduces Keyboard-Based AI PC, Redefining Portable Desktop Computing

HP Inc. has unveiled the EliteBoard G1a Next Gen AI PC at CES 2026, presenting a bold new take on desktop computing designed for the realities of hybrid work. Built entirely into a keyboard, the EliteBoard G1a is positioned as the world’s first full-fledged AI PC in this ultra-portable form factor.

At just 12mm thick and weighing 750 grams, the EliteBoard G1a packs a complete desktop-class system into a sleek keyboard chassis. Powered by an AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processor delivering over 50 TOPS of AI performance, the device functions as a standalone Copilot+ PC. Users can simply connect it to any compatible display, instantly turning virtually any workspace into a high-performance desktop setup.

According to HP, the concept responds directly to changing work patterns. With employees moving between home offices, corporate desks, and shared collaboration spaces, traditional desktops often lack flexibility. HP cites its 2025 Work Relationship Index, which found that only 44% of workers feel their current technology suits their working style.

The EliteBoard G1a aims to close that gap by combining power and mobility. Integrated dual microphones and speakers reduce the need for external peripherals, while on-device AI enables tasks such as real-time transcription, translation, and content generation without relying heavily on the cloud.

Enterprise-Grade Security and IT Readiness

For enterprise customers, HP has placed strong emphasis on security and manageability. The device includes HP Wolf Security for Business, offering hardware-level protection against firmware attacks and future-ready safeguards designed with emerging quantum threats in mind. Physical security features such as a tether and lockable cable option address concerns around securing highly portable hardware.

The EliteBoard G1a is also EPEAT Gold (2.0) registered, supporting sustainability goals, and features HP Smart Sense with AMD Auto State Management to intelligently balance performance, cooling, and battery life. An optional built-in battery allows continued use even when power access is limited.

New Display Technology to Match

Alongside the keyboard PC, HP introduced the Series 7 Pro 4K Monitor, featuring what the company calls the world’s first Neo:LED desktop display. The 31.5-inch monitor uses an IPS Black panel with a 2,700:1 contrast ratio, offering deeper blacks and enhanced visual clarity for professional workflows. With Thunderbolt 4, 140W power delivery, and 40Gbps data transfer, it enables a clean, single-cable setup.

Availability and Outlook

Both the EliteBoard G1a and Series 7 Pro 4K Monitor are expected to launch globally in March 2026, with pricing to be announced closer to release. The EliteBoard has already earned a CES 2026 Innovation Award, signaling early industry interest.

HP’s keyboard-based AI PC highlights a broader shift toward flexible, AI-driven computing. Its success will likely depend on how quickly enterprises embrace unconventional form factors—but it clearly signals that the desktop, as we know it, is evolving.
