Google Disco aims to break that cycle.

For the last two decades, the web browser hasn't fundamentally changed. Whether you use Chrome, Safari, or Edge, the core mechanic remains the same: you search for something, open a dozen tabs, and then manually sift through them to piece together an answer. It is a passive experience that places the cognitive load entirely on the user.

Google Disco aims to break that cycle.

Announced as a new experiment from Google Labs, Disco isn't just a browser; it is a Gemini-powered browser designed to do the heavy lifting for you. By utilizing a new feature called GenTabs, Disco promises to transform your scattered research into fully functional, interactive web applications. It’s an ambitious attempt to move browsing from simple information consumption to "System 2" thinking—where the tool helps you reason, plan, and build.

"I don't think of Disco as a general-purpose browser," Tabriz said, explaining that its primary purpose goes beyond opening online tabs to creating a personalized, curated app.

At the core of Disco is GenTabs, short for "generated tabs." Unlike traditional tabs, which display static web content, GenTabs are interfaces constructed by Google's Gemini AI models. Gemini 3 introduced the ability to create interactive elements such as buttons, maps, and sliders in real time.

Google Disco: How to access

Google has opened a waitlist in Labs for those interested in trying Disco early. The initial rollout is limited to macOS, with a small cohort of testers receiving the first build to experiment with GenTabs before the project expands more broadly. Google stressed that Disco remains an early-stage experiment, and some features may evolve or behave unpredictably as development progresses.
