MapMyIndia rolled out a significant enhancement to its Mappls navigation app

In January 2026, MapMyIndia rolled out a significant enhancement to its Mappls navigation app, expanding it beyond road-based guidance to include public transport journey planning. The update brings metro, rail, and bus networks onto a single platform, aiming to simplify daily commuting in urban India.

What’s New in the Mappls App

Unified Public Transport View

Commuters can now access structured information on metro systems, city bus routes, and railway services within the app. This includes station names, bus stops, route connections, and interchange points, all mapped clearly for easy reference.

End-to-End Multimodal Journeys

The upgraded Mappls app enables users to design trips that blend multiple transport modes seamlessly. For example, a journey can include walking to a nearby bus stop, taking a bus to a metro station, and continuing the rest of the trip by train—without relying on separate apps or websites.

Works with Existing Navigation Features

The public transport layer integrates smoothly with Mappls’ core services such as turn-by-turn navigation, live traffic insights, and safety notifications, offering a more holistic travel experience.

Richer Route Details

For transit-based trips, users receive practical information like estimated journey duration, metro line names (such as Red or Violet lines), and the total number of stops or stations along the route—helping commuters make informed choices.

Rollout and Availability

The multimodal transit feature is currently accessible on iOS devices and the web version of Mappls. MapMyIndia has confirmed that an Android release is in the pipeline.

At launch, the service covers 18 key Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Indore, Nagpur, Patna, Lucknow, Kanpur, and Agra.

Why It Matters

By consolidating public transport data into a single navigation interface, MapMyIndia aims to reduce the friction commuters face when juggling multiple platforms for routes, timings, and transfers. The update positions Mappls as a more complete urban mobility companion rather than just a driving navigation app.
